Yet More Litter and Discarded Fishing Line

Llantarnam Ponds

29th of July, 2024

In recent weeks, Llantarnam Ponds has been relatively calm, with minimal litter and discarded fishing line. However, on July 29, 2024, a concerning amount of litter, including fishing line, was found near the water's edge at pond 2, which had been left the previous day.

It is highly improbable that the irresponsible fishermen utilizing the pond possessed a fishing license, and despite it being a Sunday, Cwmbran Angling Association appeared to have conducted no checks.

The 5 remaining mute swans at the ponds were at risk of becoming entangled in the discarded fishing line, potentially leading to fatal consequences.

Volunteers have taken action to rid the area of litter and fishing line on Monday, minimizing the immediate danger. However, more will undoubtably appear over the next week.

Below you can see images of the litter and fishing line which was predominantly collected from one single bay.
